Timeless Fashion Icons of the Hollywood Golden Age

The period of 1927 and 1963 is know as the "golden age of Hollywood". Stars such as Frank Sinatra, Elizabeth Taylor, Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers, John Wayne, Clarke Gable, Gene Kelly and Audrey Hepburn, to name a few, dominated the screens. This time period as gave us some of the most beautiful fashion. What really resonates from these screen idols and fashion icons is that they still are idols and icons, they really are timeless.

Here are some of my favourite actresses from the time, all of which ooze the femininity and glamour of their era.

1: Ginger Rogers, most famous for her dance collaborations with Fred Astaire and her elegant film costumes.
2, 3: Katharine Hepburn was a leading lady in Hollywood for nearly 60 years. She famously shunned publicity and refused to conform to society's expectations of women; she was assertive and independent and wore trousers before it was fashionable for women to do so.
4, 5: Grace Kelly experienced a real-life fairy tale when she became the Princess of Monaco. She was renowned for her understated and simple style and elegant approach to fashion.
6: Most known for her role as Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, Judy Garland favoured extravagant accessories, including pearls, feathered boas, and fur stoles.
7: Swedish actress Ingrid Bergman rarely wore make-up and was known for her natural beauty and carefully placed hair.
8, 9: Sex symbol and style icon Marilyn Monroe was known for her red lipstick, perfectly coiffed hair and winged eyeliner, and said that she never left the house without a pair of heels.
10, 11: Audrey Hepburn is ranked as the 3rd greatest female screen legend and her elegance and elfin beauty are synonymous with the Hollywood glamour. Ginvenchy designed Hepburn's personal ensembles, and the little black dress he designed, made famous by the film Breakfast at Tiffany's sold for £467,200, the highest price paid for a dress from a film and a sign of her legacy as a style icon.
12: Elizabeth Taylor is a true Hollywood legend. She was known for her extravagant outfits complete with diamond, plunging necklines and those distinctive heavily made-up eyes.
